Beaver Colony
|
|
| Beavers | This is our newest
venture. We had a few parents put it to us that we started up a
Beaver Colony, so the idea came up at a Committee Meeting a couple of years
ago, but was put on hold because we believed that we would have trouble finding a leader.
But, recently, all that changed with two potential leaders coming to light. One already held a warrant for the District, and the other was a local Primary school teacher. They had the necessary meetings, and went along to another colony to see how it was run. They were both still keen on the idea, so they organized a parents meeting, with letters being sent out to every child at the local school. This letter would prove enough to get our first ever Colony started. We had 10 potential Beavers and their parents turn up to the meeting, and they were given a copy of the welcome pack and all of the relevant forms to complete. The following morning, we had all of the forms back and more that had been passed around after the meeting. On Tuesday 5th December 2000, we held our first ever Colony night with 12 new members, and more on the waiting list. We hope to increase this number later in the new year when the leaders have found out what they have let themselves in for (only joking!!!) The Colony had their enrolment night on Tuesday 27th March 2001, and they had an excellent turnout - even the District Commissioner, Roger Thorne, joined in with the evening. All the new Beavers enjoyed the evening, and they had cake and drinks for themselves and their parents afterwards. The Beavers have also held a fun day at our Summer HQ on the side of May Hill. The theme of the day was Indians and, as you can see by these photo's, a great time was had by all that attended. |
